The 590 Shockwave’s matte blued cylinder bore (smoothbore) barrel is 14.375” long and heavy-walled. On top is a gold bead front sight. The pump-action has a sure-grip black synthetic corn cob forend that also has a strap for even better contact.

At the other end is a classic black synthetic raptor grip that Mossberg affixes to the entire 590 Shockwave series. The raptor grip’s shape is eye-catching, but its rounded contour is also designed to minimize felt recoil. This model’s overall length is 26.37”.

The 590 Shockwave has positive steel-to-steel lockup, twin action bars, an ambidextrous tang safety, and a smooth operating anti-jam elevator. Its dual extractors mean spent casings await easy removal when you break open the gun. It also has a cleanout tube and a drilled and tapped receivers.

The magazine cap is serrated for a good grip. The receiver is anodized aluminum. The gun also has sling swivel studs in front and back.

The 12-gauge, 20-gauge and .410 bore are practically identical except in their weights. The 12-gauge tips the scales lightly at 5.25 pounds. With its slightly narrower barrel, the 20-gauge is lighter and comes in at 4.95 pounds. Even narrower, the .410 bore weighs only 4.24 pounds.
